Parrot colored scetches

This time I've used crayons when doing these fastscetches. I like how the colors bring up certain moods. There's so much left I need to learn it can be frighting. But my motivation is fun ! So have a fun summer everybody and keep that pressure on it ;) !!!

Lemon vikings

There was a time in wich people believed that they could fall of the earth when sailing to far across the wide ocean. Maybe they were sailing upon a giant skirt ? Or maybe they just liked the huge lemons wich floated around randomly in the salty seawater.

Funky flowers

While painting these simple flowers for fun I suddenly came to realise how stupid it all was. When you make something anyone else can do it doesn't mean a thing. But if you're able to give it your own twist it becomes more interesting. It's an exercise and it's weird but I need alot of both.

Scetches

Those fast scetches are very hard, but you learn alot with them. No, I have no idea why most models are female. Good question though ! Maybe they're better at standing still ? There's the challange male models !

Zonnekind magazine

Where does milk come from ? We all had to learn it once. This time I have the honor to remind you how the job is done. I actually love milk ! With cornflakes that is.

Animation movie : Anti-aging

About a year ago I succesfully finished my studies animationfilmmaking with this movie. Nobody really got to see any of it ever since :D  Media kind of brainwashes people, making them think transcience is something wrong. It's too bad children grow up with these signals. This movie tries to give a colorfull view about it all.

Summer scetching

It's the middle of an examwar, yet I felt like scetching a little inbetween - yippee ! I really like these colorcombinations. Somehow they speak summer.

Opera brochure

Finally done ! It turned out okay I guess. What a typicall student thing to say isn't it ? It's hard to get the colors right when using a small camera. Oh well, you get the idea.

Fredrick Zoller

This character is from the well known movie called " Inglorious Bastards ". Hidden within this movie Quentin Tarantino made a little fictious propaganda film called " Stolz der Nation " (= Nations Pride).

I really adore this unstoppable force as he is quite contradictionary. At one hand he's fighting for his believes, yet he's quite evil. Smart but also blindfully stupid, a descent man and a monster, succesfull but unable to get what he wants,. Dynamic while completly holding his ground... my hero !

Architecture magazine

While making this booklet I got to learn so many things about books. The way they are put together in aspects of typography, lay-out, choices of paper, picture placing, measuring, indesign, printing, binding techniques and so on. We even had to write our own textparts. Being immersed in this world helps illustrators to place their view in a stylish way.

Pop-up book style

Legends speak about a group of knights who lived in far away kingdom called " Broken bridge Valley". As darkness fell upon their kingdom a long war started. But with the help of a devine angel who secretly lived amoungst them, they obtained countless victories against the most impossible odds.

Logodesign for Vitanova

Logo's are not to be underestimated. There's alot of thinkwork behind them. Let alone the geometric approach they need. It's interesting to see how one represents an entire idea or group in one single sign. A good logo should make people feel what it represents. Difficult stuff and I'm really not a pro in these things !

Something about books

As I'm still being an illustration-nothing, I feel like I need to learn tons ! Like these titles emply these books contain alot of specific information. Sometimes you do feel like they slam you right in the face. But it's needed. I can really recommand these to illustration students like myselve. Because knowledge is power afterall ; )

Opera moment : love potion

Back to the opera. So this enchantres Alcina tries to make Ruggero fall in love with her using a potion. It is described by him as the freshest water he had ever drunk. Then he completly forgets about his love for Brabamante wich ofcource isn't happy for that. At the end he gets rid of the spell and returns to his true love. Like anyone still follows the story xD It should be my last picture about this opera.

Tropical music instruments

This picture reminds me of movies like Jurassic Parc or that band that kept on playing on the Titanic. The different shapes instruments have are great. Combined with a "rotten fruit"- style you get a new visual melody for the eye.

Taste of Flanders

So I decided to make this special shaped box. Inside you'll find 5 smaller boxes each decorated with illustrations of the provincial capitals. Inside these boxes you'll find its local sweet. My concept stands for a Flanders with a good taste on many fronts.

Opera character : Alcina ( second version )

It's interesting to try something new. You could draw this character in millions of ways. In trying it your way you come across you-things. Maybe drawing is very egocentric. Yet it also tries to show things to others wich makes them see things of themselves aswell. As a landscape painter once said : "You don't see landscapes in my work, you see yourselve." That would make Art a mirror and window right ? Then what are we looking at ? Can't-get-it.

Opera character : Angelica

This "little angel " isn't that pure of heart as it may look like. Next to causing alot of trouble by just being pretty, she's also a beautifull liar. She has send one of her lovers, Orlando, on a mission of which she knows he will not return. "Find me the water of youth" - yeah right. What she really wants is to be with her other lover named Medoro. But surprise ! Orlando survives the trap and returns furiously.

Opera violin

No this isn't a lost shirtmotive from somewhere deep within the 80's. However it did inspire me a litlle.
I think it's a weird picture, but there's gotta be those aswell. Who would leave his blue violin in a tropical island anyway ?

Phantasy star online fanart

Dead robots, weird people and a whole planet trying to take you down. Yes, school seemed that way at some times, but this was the videogame I played most during my teenyears. Since it came online, my friends and I had the most exciting adventures ever. It was fun to play as a superhero once in a while you know ! Don't think I'll get to finish this one though, duty calls.

Scetches

There is one single model infront of us students. Yet we all draw something completly different.
What happens on the way from the eyes to our hands ? What are we striving after each time over and over again ? Like we need to grab something and place it on the paper to last. Can we grab it ?
It's pretty confusing. Obviously there's alot going on. There's something with this trial and error process.

Opera characters : Angelica & Medoro

And what can we say about these two ? All they really do is be in love the whole story long. Oh well, it brings good singing I guess. This couple was quite the popular subject for Romantic painters. After Orlando gets over his crazy crush on Angelica the " perfect couple " can truly live happely ever after.

Opera character : Orlando

This main character is madly in love with a beautifull princess he'll never get. Her name is Angelica and her heart is already sold to the handsome Medoro. Because Orlando gets trapped at some point in the story, he's too late to get to Angelica. When he sees their names carved on a big tree, he becomes furious. Love becomes a curse and obsession and he aswell falls for the darker sides of it.

In the end he's able to pull himself together to move on with his life.

Opera character : Alcina

This character is mastress of an ilsand as she is talented with magical powers. Within her hopeless search for love she kind of fell to the darker side of passion. Jalousy and pain filled her heart with shadows from a dreamworld. So she tried to steal a lover away using a love potion, but it was not to be, for true love prevailed. Devastated and undone from her powers she left the island while swearing for great revenge.

Scetching for Operabrochure : " Orlando Furioso"

This lovestory is situated on a strange island where a certain enchantress uses her talents to gain love by force. Ofcource the other characters try to make true love prevail, but that's easier said then done. You could look at this as an old version of the " Lost" series with ofcource alot of singing.

Childrens illustration

This is an example of a sketch I was allowed to make for a childrens magazine. It's interesting to see how much changes along the way of production. In this case an entire background had to be remade to fit the story in a better way. I think that mailbox would have a freaky voice if it were real.

Hasselt describes itself as the city of taste. Its scale might be rather small compared to the other ones, but it surely has the biggest heart. The people of Limburg are well known for their hospitality, smile and life enhancing attitude. You'll also notice quite some green plans like the Japanese garden, Green Boulevard, the Kapermolen parc and free buss system. This is a city that puts life on the first place mixed with a fresh glass of gin.

Leuven, capital of the province called Flemish Brabant

Back in the dark ages warlord "Arnulf van Karinthië" won a bloody war against the vikings who never returned after his victory. Then he descided to create a castle wich would grow out to the Leuven we know of today. It had the first university of the lowlands and became a true studentcity as it still is. Serious studies and crazy student joking go hand in hand here. Leuven is also home of the famous Stella beer wich inspires many students to work even...harder ? As monument to all of this stands the statue of " Fonske" who secretly learns the chemical substance of love from his book.

Antwerp, capital of the province called Antwerp

Legends tell about a giant who once lived nearby Antwerp. He made sailors pay him in order to have a save passage on the river called "de Schelde". However. One brave roman soldier called Silvius Brabo chopped of the giants hand and threw it in the river. Today Antwerp is the biggest Flemish city. It has a strong economy and the streets are honored with some huge barok buildings. Next to its power it has a great eye for fine arts as juwelery ( diamonds ), paintings ( Rubens, Jordaens and Teniers ) and fashion. The people of Antwerp have no doubt about the fact that their city is the best in the entire world.
